France

France is a country made for holidays. A landscape so stunning and diverse that to travel from region to region can feel like moving between different countries. Consider the teeming, vibrant, street culture of Paris or Lyon, set against the glacial majesty and tranquillity of the French Alps. Picture an outdoors holiday spent cycling or hiking through the rolling hills of Provence, or just imagine a week spent idling on the beaches of the Riviera. There is something here for absolutely everyone. Little wonder then, that France consistently comes out as the world's number one tourist destination, with in excess of 75 million visitors a year. The best the continent has to offer, all within the confines of one border.

Enjoy a city break in Paris - capital of France, and perhaps world capital of romance – with its stunning architecture and rich cultural history. Take in the Eiffel Tower by night, lose yourself in the vast art collections of The Louvre, or just wander the streets as a 'flaneur' (idler or stroller) soaking up the unique architecture, street-life and cafe culture of the “City of Lights”. Visit the spectacular Chateaux of the Loire Valley, perhaps taking in a vineyard or two along the way. Sample the myriad delights available in Touraine “the garden of France”, so called because of the abundance of fruit, vegetables, and just about anything else that grows here!

For the energetic, a holiday spent windsurfing, kayaking or surfing in the “surfer's paradise” of Biarritz, whilst the less-energetic relax from a safe distance on the beach! Go hiking, mountain biking or climbing through the spectacularly varied terrain of the French countryside, or simply enjoy the unspoilt tranquillity with the family in one of the numerous villas or farmhouses of South West France.

Rub shoulders with the glamorous people of the Cote d'Azur, perhaps indulging in a bit of celeb spotting (or super-yacht spotting for that matter) along the way. And if all that wasn't enough, pack the snowsuit and skis and head off to the breath-taking mountain landscapes of the Alps for a week of neck-breaking (or leisurely) downhill, being sure to save enough energy for the Apres-ski.

Not content with being a feast for the eyes, France is also a world-leader in gastronomy and wine production – this is a country who take their food and drink seriously! Quaff Champagne in the ancient caverns of Reims, enjoy world-class vin rouge in the heart of Burgundy, and taste heavenly cuisine just about anywhere you end up. Make sure not to pass by the boulangerie – if you've never had bread in France then you've never really had French bread...
